Terrell, TX — The Terrell Police Department’s 9-1-1 Communications team is proving that their commitment to helping others doesn’t stop when the calls end.
Throughout the year, the city’s 9-1-1 telecommunicators have donated their own money to support local programs that make a difference in the community. Each month, the 9-1-1 communications team sends supplies to help stock the Terrell ISD Tiger Mart, a student-led program that helps fight hunger through an in-school grocery store supporting Terrell families in
need.
Earlier this year, the group also led a back-to-school drive for Terrell ISD, collecting supplies to help students start the school year prepared and confident. Together, they collected nearly 1,000 school supplies.
Now, the 9-1-1 Communications team is rallying the entire city for a community canned food drive. Partnering with other city departments, donation drop-off locations have been set up at multiple city buildings across Terrell. The collected food will be shared between Terrell ISD
families and the Share Center, supporting neighbors in need ahead of the holiday season.
“These 9-1-1 telecommunicators serve our community every day from behind the scenes, and this project shows their compassion extends far beyond the walls of the dispatch center,” said Nikki Newton, 9-1-1 Community Engagement Coordinator with NCT9-1-1. “Their generosity truly
embodies the spirit of public service.”
Community members are encouraged to join in by donating canned goods at participating city buildings through November 17. Every item makes a difference.
